I've listened to sales tapes, read both educational and motivational books, and most importantly cranked out over 100 calls a day for over a decade in the recruiting industry. As a working manager, I recognize that time is our most valuable commodity. Therefore, I've created a set of training tools that will provide significant content and impact without you hitting the fast forward button.
We've all been through too many training series of "101" great ideas, only to find out 21 were good and the rest were there to fill up the additional 5 tapes. I don't know about you, but I'm too busy to waste my time on them.
With the slowdown of the economy, our industry faces new obstacles. Companies are downsizing, cutting costs, and exhibiting a general apathy towards recruiters. Just like most stockbrokers, the majority of recruiters have never faced a downturn. Their skills and attitudes have been honed in a highly favorable job order environment. The market has changed! Many recruiters have lost sight of their people skills and their need to make calls; their reliance on the internet has compounded the problem.
During the Vietnam War, the Top Gun Fighter School was formed because pilots lost their skills in dog-fighting. They were over reliant on their missiles rather than maintaining their tactics and strategy. Their trust in missiles resembles the current dependence on the internet and technology. They are great tools. They are, however, the very media looking to take us out of the loop. We must combat this by becoming even more professional and focused.
These two series are a fast ride back to the basics of selling.
For those of you who are students of the art of selling, this is a breath of fresh air. For your employees, it's a kick in the pants…without you having to administer the blow!
